The ride by mini-bus took 6 bumpy hours with stunning - the scenery was stunning - meeting on the way 2 Germans, Madeleine travelling for 10 months around the world - and Arianna - a few months around South East Asia. On our arrival in Vang Vieng we shared a tuk Tuk to the centre - discovering that that it is not large place - and then hunted for a Guest House together. Finding Tonys Guest House. That evening I discovered the Rotee - yup food again. A Rotee I think originates from Malaysia and is a sort of pancake. Rather than a batter it is ball of dough.
I stayed for 2 nights. What then did I do? Well the countryside around Vang Vieng is stunning - Vang Vieng is also know for its Trek, not just drunken backpackers - Full of caves. And rather than go tubing we 3 went on a trek. Not organised of course. 6 km from Vang Vieng is Tham Phu Kham Cave - Blue Lagoon Caves. Within the cave is a sleeping Buddha. It took us a couple of hours - at first, we went to the wrong cave - And off course less time to get back. A enjoyable day. Afterwards as a reward, red curry with sticky rice and another Rotee!
To see what Tubing is, then visit Ulli's blog. Its in German but the photos are great.
Maybe I have been harsh on Vang Vieng? Or maybe I am not? Any thoughts?
