And in Chiang Mai, there a hell of a lot of Wats. I visited 2 outside of the city and nearly 21 within the Old city. In the Lonely planet it states that '...Chiang mai has in excess of 300 temples, 121 within the (modern) city limits...'. The old city is square in shape surrounded by the remains of the old wall and a moat.
One of the Wats visited outside of the city is Wat Phra That Doi Suthep. It is sittuated on a peak about 1600m high with a great view of the city. This Wat is Northern Thailand most sacred temple and the a symbol of Chiang Mai.
In visiting the Wats within the old city during one day, you get to realise that they are aall of similar style - the temples anyway - but as a complex they have variety.
Starting with Wat Doi Suthep, lets explorer the Wats of Chiang Mai...
