Travelling in Vietnam was getting expensive - relatively speaking - as we were approaching Tet - the Lunar (Chinese) New Year. Its the time when the whole country wants to travel. No difference then than the Xmas/New Year period in the uK.
We left Nha Trang at 5.30am - yet another early start - and boarded our 15 seater minibus. And it was just a 15 seater. In Vietnam, they tend not to leave any place for luggage, let alone space for the passenger let alone 4 big back packs.

Kon Tum as a town was not of great interest apart from the great markets of course. However it was the friendliest town visited so far. Maybe it was the approach of Tet, but this is the first place that I visited that reduced the prices after we negotiated the prices. In the market, we tried to buy some bananas. The seller insisted to give them for us for free. In a restaurant there seem to be, Buy 4 noodle soup and get 1 free offer we were not aware. In the evening Alex managed to get us invited to a party being held on the street - as we walked by.

The next day, we toured the outside of town. The village, the fields, the middle of nowhere on mopeds. Do not worry, I have not yet decided to drive so I was a passenger. Nora doing the driving...

At the end of the day, we visited a orphanage and donated a 50kg bag of rice.

Kon Tum was the least touristic place I have been so far in Vietnam. We saw no more than 3 other tourists the whole time we were in Kon Tum. As Tet was arriving we had to leave the 24th or wait until the 27th. So on to Hoi An....

G'Day Dan,
Great to see you're still having a great time! Vietnam is certainly an interesting place to visit, especially by moped! Have fun in Korea and hopefully catch up in Perth in a few weeks time..

Been exciting caching up with all the details and wonderful photos of your leisurely journey through SE Asia.
Looking forward to "seeing" Korea through your eyes --- how does it compare with where you have been already ? --- bet it's v different.
And then Japan soon --- my friend in Tokyo knows you are coming.
Enjoy yourself.
